Plant description: Lemon is a small evergreen tree native to Asia and widely cultivated in warm climates around the world. It grows up to 3–6 metres tall, with glossy green leaves and fragrant white to pale pink flowers. The fruit is oval with a bright yellow rind, which contains aromatic oils and is commonly used dried for herbal preparations.

Part used: Peel (dried rind).

Harvest: The peel is collected from ripe fruit and carefully dried to preserve its aromatic oils.

Active Constituents: Essential oils (primarily limonene), flavonoids, citric acid, vitamin C, bitters.

Energetics: Slightly sour, aromatic, gently warming to neutral.

Actions: Digestive, carminative, antioxidant, mild stimulant, aromatic tonic.

Uses: Lemon peel has traditionally been used to support digestion, helping to relieve bloating, gas, and sluggish digestion. Its uplifting aroma makes it a gentle mood enhancer, while its antioxidant properties support overall wellness. It may also be useful during colds and flu to help refresh and lightly stimulate the system. As a tea, it provides a light, refreshing flavour and can be blended with other herbs to enhance taste and digestive benefits.

Dosage: Infusion – pour one cup of boiling water over one teaspoon of dried peel and steep for 5–10 minutes. Drink up to three times per day.
