Botanical Name: Cinnamomum verum (or Cinnamomum cassia)

Plant description: Cinnamon is an evergreen tree native to Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia. It grows up to 10–15 metres tall, with smooth bark and aromatic leaves. The inner bark is harvested, dried, and ground into a fine powder with a warm, sweet-spicy aroma.
Part used: Bark (powdered).
Harvest: The inner bark is stripped from young shoots, dried, and finely ground.
Active Constituents: Volatile oils (cinnamaldehyde, eugenol), tannins, polyphenols.
Energetics: Sweet, pungent, warming.
Actions: Carminative, digestive, circulatory stimulant, antimicrobial, antioxidant.
Uses: Cinnamon supports digestion, helping ease bloating and sluggish digestion. Its warming nature stimulates circulation and provides gentle support during colds. Commonly used to add flavour and warmth to herbal tea blends.
Dosage: Infusion – add ½–1 teaspoon to one cup of boiling water and steep 10 minutes. Drink up to two times per day.
Cautions: Use in moderation during pregnancy. High doses may irritate sensitive individuals.
Interactions: May interact with blood sugar–lowering medications.
